Our Stories on Film

We are a community of female and non-binary film photographers who share a passion for film photography and a desire to elevate diversity and representation.

Our Stories on Film was conceived after seeing a desire for a safe, inclusive space for female and non-binary film photographers and enthusiasts to connect, seek advice, and share our love for this medium of photography.

We have grown organically through word-of-mouth and social media and received strong support from film photography businesses from around Australia.

All female and non-binary film photographers of any level are welcome to join us on our Discord server. Tag #ourstoriesonfilm for your photos to be featured on our Instagram.

Our Stories on Film - Volume 3: Duality
A$65.00

THEME: Duality explores the tension and harmony between opposing forces that we observe in our lives: the light and dark, softness and strength, order and chaos. This volume features the works of 28 female and non-binary photographers where they explore the in-between, where contradictions coexist and meaning unfolds in their identity, motherhood, society and their observations of the world around them.

DESIGN: We re-invented our approach to the conventional design of a book, the result: a bespoke design that blurs the lines between a photo book and collection of prints. This volume contains 29 sheets of A3 posters housed within a cover sleeve. Designed to be pulled out, flipped through page-by-page and enjoyed as prints on your wall.

Pre-orders quantities are limited and at a discounted price of AUD$49. Shipping due to start in March/April 2026. Printed in Australia.

Community Zine

WHY MAKE A ZINE?

What led us to the creation of this zine was recognising the need for greater representation and celebration of women and non-binary folk in the field of photography. Our goal for this zine is to elevate the work of these artists globally and for viewers to see more perspectives of universal human experiences. So in December 2021, we put a call out to film photographers around the world to participate in this community-led print publication. After 9+ months of planning, designing, and preparation, we made volume 1 ‘Identity’ which sold out within weeks.

WHY PRINT?

As film photographers, we enjoy the beauty in the slow process, tangibility, and permanency that this medium offers. Rather than have photos exist purely in the ever-so-fleeting world of Instagram, we wanted to extend the enjoyment of photography to the real world, taking it offline. Our zine was carefully and thoughtfully designed to be enjoyed in hand, on your coffee table, gifted to others, and revisited time and time again. Let’s be honest, how often do we scroll back through our feed from a month or year ago?!

VOLUME 1 / IDENTITY - SOLD OUT

It felt right to theme our first volume as ‘identity’ as a way to introduce ourselves and showcase some of the artists who make up our community. Our personal identity is how we see ourselves, how we introduce ourselves to others, and a place where we find meaning and a sense of belonging. Identity is something we all have, yet there are so many ways to express it.

VOLUME 2 / MELANCHOLY‍ ‍

In volume 2 of Our Stories on Film,we want to show different kinds of melancholy so that we can all start to recognise this valuable emotion, tap into it, and see what it can teach us about ourselves. We also hope that this will help develop greater awareness within ourselves and be a reason for you to start an important dialogue about mental health with the people around you. Read more

VOLUME 3 / DUALITY - NOW AVAILABLE

We’re surrounded by contrast and contradictions both in what we observe within ourselves and the world around us. As a testament to the complexities of life, we want to explore duality in the myriad of ways it shows up. Read more
